Lead Character Artist

Job description

NetEase Games Montreal is the brand new division of NetEase Games; a leading game developer and publisher focusing on delivering top quality mobile and online gaming experiences. We’re currently seeking Lead Character Artist for our next AAA project to provide artistic direction for the character team.

Job Responsibilities

*A strong understanding of technical considerations for character creation;

*Ability to produce outstanding realistic characters;

*Ability to establish quality standards for character production and develop reasonable optimization plans;

*Good understanding of current generation production workflows about character art production;

*Strong understanding of human anatomy and it’s proportions;

*Strong understanding of creating meshes with clean topology for deformation;

*Collaborate with the other artists (e.g. concept artist, animators), technical team members(e.g. Technical Artist, Programmers), and studio leadership;

*Review and deliver work following the project's artistic direction and deadlines;

*As one of the main contacts for a collaborating between studios;

*Find the relevant solutions to problems encountered in work.

Job requirements

*Passionate about video games, with a strong interest in photorealistic/cinematic styles;

*A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a 3D Character Artist;

*At least 2 years' as a Senior or Leader Artist;

*Experience in creating original intellectual properties in a video game context;

*Excellent 3D Art skills (e.g. 3D Modelling, texturing, composition and lighting);

*Good understanding of PBR materials, texture mapping, character rigging fundamentals, and cloth simulation;

*Familiarity with data management software is desirable (e.g. Perforce);

*Excellent working knowledge of industry-standard graphics applications (e.g. Maya, 3ds Max, Substance Painter, Photoshop, Marvelous Designer, Zbrush, etc.);

*Knowledge of the video game industry and awareness of typical video game development processes is desirable (e.g. game engines, 3D model toolsets, and production pipelines) Relevant Experience;

*Experienced in working with game engines;

*Ability to adapt work for marketing needs and supervise production;

*Excellent innovation skills and an excellent understanding of the creative process;

*Excellent communication skills and the ability to visualize and communicate ideas.

*Experience developing / shipping AAA first-person shooters a plus.

*Willing to travel to China several times per year to communicate with local teams.

*Fluent in English. Chinese (Mandarin) speaker is a plus.
